Chardin, Jean-Baptiste-Siméon
(1699-1779)
Largely self taught and strongly influenced by 17th century low country masters such as Metsu and de Hooch, Chardin became one of the greatest of the 18th century painters. A lover of Still Life and Simple Subjects, subdued colors and soft lighting. Later in life, as his eyesight began to fail, he turned to pastels which, whilst not appreciated then, are now highly valued. |

Constable, John (1776-1837)
English painter acknowledged as one of the finest British Landscape Artists. He loved the English countryside, never traveled abroad, and his finest works were of scenes of Suffolk and Hampstead where he resided. His talents were unique as he developed his own technique of capturing the variances of light and weather with rapid brushstrokes and splashes of pure, bright color. Although he joined the Royal Academy Schools in 1799 recognition of his works was not swift and he was not admitted as a full Academician until 1829. |

Campendonk liked to experiment with styles such as Cubism, Futurism and Orphism. |
